The FS7235 is a 5 piece rod and packs down to 18" if you plan on doing some hiking. The shopping is half the fun. I have the GS844, my favorite dry fly rod, a 3 weight in that series would be in the running as well. Whenever I can’t entice fish to rise for dries, or I can’t see fish rise I pack my dry rod, and use euronymphing or streamer setup. As soon as I see fish raise, I pack euro rod. One of Gary Borger's favorite easy to tie patterns are collared leeches. When a fly is stripped, the fly creates a pulse or sound wave as the fly pushing the water aside and forward. A muddler minnow or fly with a "collar' such as a collared leech creates a larger "bow wave" as it is retrieved.

On the one hand, the Payload was introduced after the Bass II was discontinued and both were designed for throwing big flies with compact head/overweighted lines. But there's a 10" difference in length for most models (most Payloads are 8'9", but the 10 and 11 wts are longer), so that suggests a completely different rod.

A 6 weight Radian or Meridian with a 200 grain sink tip and an unweighted fly (maximum 4’ of leader) can easily hit targets 75-80 feet with great accuracy and get the fly down to the fish.
