But for what it's worth: -EM is a relatively short residency (most 3 yrs, some 4 yrs). You don't have to study for years and years to master a narrow field and become a specialist (e.g. neurosurgeons, cardiologists). (Not to take away from the fact that EM is a specialty in emergency medicine.)
