IAC went through a lot of trouble to get the 97 right. I remember reading that they sent an well known 1897 expert to the the Norinco factory in China. If you have the riot version it should be easy to convert it to a trench. All you need is the heat shield/bayonet lug, that's the hard part. The repop has been discontinued for a while.

Norinco 1897 trench gun heat shield keeps wandering forward under recoil. I plan on milling out the screw threads and taping for a larger size thread that will actually protrude more. I was wondering if that'd be a good idea as obviously without the mechanical advantage of the screws being in the grooves the clamping force isn't enough.

It is an original trench gun and is in really good condition with one caveat - the heat shield was ripped off. It still has the bayonet lug, but the original guy ripped the heat shield off. Hell, it still has 3 of the rivets! Still in the white, needs final fitting and finishing. Heat shield has six rows of vent holes. These are no longer available from East Taylor as the owner passed away and the business was shut down. Admittedly, the lack of a vent rib on the 97 presents a bit of a challange during a 100 bird shoot on a hot summer day as the heat waves coming off the plain barrel tend to blur the target. IMO, Winchester gave the Model 97 and Model 12 full chokes which are equal or superior to those of many current high end and costly dedicated trap guns. DF
