Jan 7, 2013 · OD is still used in 4th gear, but it only has to hold about 60% of the torque (versus 100% in 5th and 6th), so it sounds like it can still hold that OK. You should be able to drive it (if you use ERS "4" so it doesn't try to shift to 5th, and drive gently), but sooner or later it will probably fail completely. I am not hard on the truck and changed the fluid and filters at 100k. It doesnt make any attempt to move in drive, but also doesnt make any noises. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. When it went through the case, it chiped some teeth and misalighed 5th and the shift fork.
