Odd problem developing over the last few months with 97 t 100, 4 cyl, 5 speed. On deceleration sound like jake brakes on a big truck, but not as loud. Most noticeable on city streets in 2nd or 3rd gear when letting foot off gas. It's somewhat annoying.My 2003 Volvo VHD has the VED12 engine in it. It sounds like you have a fault in the switch for the brake light system or the parking brake system. When the switch starts to go bad, the switch will not ground fully and cause the issues you are having. The truck thinks the brake is partially applied, but not fully engged and allowing the 2 systems to work.Easy to hear, but not in the cab with all the damned bells going off. Mine cycles. No codes. Posts: 1,592. The best way to use a jake is to leave it on high all the time and control it with you right foot. When you get off the gas the jake comes on. Slowing down to fast just push on the throttle a little and jake turns off and you can still coast. Need more braking just let off the throttle again.
