DDLC as a whole is retconned to be a game within a game. No longer are we a visual novel player horrified as the game glitches out, we're just a bored office employee doing his job. The lore could easily remain intact by replacing ddlc with any other new game or characters. It doesn't add to ddlc as you said but more like use it to build for something bigger which ended up depreciating it in a way cause they tried to bend and explain a number of stuff in ddlc in a way that is convenient for that project only. The lore is the absolute best part of this masterpiece I'm not a fan of VNs whatsoever but DDLC's lore and philosophical meta-questioning managed to create a profound sense of fascination towards the game within me.
