Ignition key sometimes works to unlock the spare tire lock mechanism. (Lock mechanism @ the right side of the rear license plate) If your ignition key doesn't work, check the glove box for the paper/sticker with the part code for the key. Have Ford dealership order you a new one. On my 2005 Ford F-150 4x4, the ignition key works just fine.

Tighten the winch/adjustment cable back up using the jack parts. All info about it is in owners manual. I'd recommend that every 6 months you lower your tire, fill it to the max on the sidewall, and then raise it back up. Follow the instructions in the manual. I am not a fan of Ford's original spare tire set up, so I am going to fab my own instead, using this E150 spare tire hoist...The F-150 spare tire should always be mounted with the valve stem (the thing you put air into) pointing out. If you cannot see the valve stem, the spare tire on F-150 is mounted backwards. In addition, if your F-150 has a donut spare (a small spare tire), then you should mount it on one of the rear wheels when you are in a safe area to do so.Step 2.
